Wedgwood pottery was founded by Josiah Wedgwood I, an independent potter in Burslem, England, in 1759. Over 260 years later, the company is still producing many of the materials Josiah invented, such as Jasper, Queen’s Ware and Black Basalt.
Many people are most familiar with the iconic blue and white Jasperware. However the company has developed many decorative tableware collections in bone china. As a material, bone china is lightweight yet durable; it is made from china clay, china stone and bone ash (made from animal bones).
This bilingual exhibit explores the growth of Wedgwood in the North American market, and how it was skillfully marketed to Canadians and tourists alike. Ceramic types and Canadian Wedgwood artists are also highlighted.
Included for display are objects featuring Heraldic symbols, wilderness scenes, Canadian motifs and souvenirs. View Exhibit Rental Poster.
